The Grapes of Wrath Vs. Bob Marley
`
About Me

Welcome!

"Movement of jah people!
Send us another brother Moses!
From across the Red Sea!....
We're leaving Babylon, ya'll!
We're going to our father's land."
~Bob Marley Exodus

This quote connects to the Grapes of Wrath because it makes a biblical reference to Moses.  In the Grapes of Wrath, when they sent the dead baby down the river, it was like when Moses' mother sent Moses down the river.  In both stories, the babies were sent down the river because their mothers were too poor to care for them.  The difference in the two stories was that the baby in the Grapes of Wrath was dead, while Moses was alive.  The quote also points out the migration of people to the "promised land" which was like when the Joads' journeyed to their "promised land," California.

"One love,
One heart,
Let's get together and feel alright..."
~Bob Marley, One Love

These lyrics by Bob Marley tie into the Grapes of Wrath because both incorporate the idea of the phalanx.  Bob Marley and the Grapes of Wrath emphasize the importance of the group opposed to the importance of the individual.

More Bob Marley Lyrics Here!

Bob Marley is much like Jim Casy.  Originally, Bob Marley was a religious, clean-cut, well-raised boy before he began singing.  Jim Casy was a preacher and tried to preach holiness until he, like
Marley, realized that that avenue of his life was not for him and quit being a preacher.

AFrica Unite!
'Cause the children wanna come home
Africa, Unite
'Cause we're moving right out of Babylon
And we're grooving to our father's land.
How good and how pleasant it would be
Before God and man
To see the unification of all Rastaman, yeah
As it's been said already
Let it be done, yeah
I tell you who we are under the sun
We are the children of the Rastaman
We are the children of the Higher Man
So,
Africa Unite
Africa Unite
Unite for the benefit of your people
Unite for it's later than you think
Unite for the benefit of your children
Unite for it's later than you think ~Bob Marley

The song Africa Unite incorporates the idea of the phalanx.  It is about coming together like the Joad family realized they had to unite and work together on their travels.  It also incoporates biblical references and shows the importance of Bob Marley obedience and respect for God.  God was also represented in the book The Grapes of Wrath as being important.
